"Be Cautious" 2008-10-24

I like the pans but I cut my finger on the sharp edge at the base of the handle while washing it. Be very careful the edges near the base of the handle are very sharp and it cut me like a knife.

"Good quality for the price" 2008-09-23
By E (Elsewhere)
This is a good quality set of pots and pans for someone starting out or for a second set if you are a cook that needs some extra cookware for large parties and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for another set. I was surprised that the price is so low for a set with reinforced bases (so that everything you cook doesn't automatically burn) and they don't look too cheap on your stove. The pots and pan are good sized and have nice vented, glass lids to allow you to see what you are cooking and you can slide them into the oven without worry of ruining your cookware. Although the handles are just metal, they do not seem to get exceptionally hot to the touch when cooking on the stove. The cookware is also light in weight, unlike my primary set of Anolon cookware--which is really heavy, but still my favorite. The set also cleans up nicely even though it isn't non-stick.

"Good for the price" 2008-09-10
By A. Mills (East Texas USA)
This set of cookware seemed a little bit too "light weight" for my preferences, but so far, have help up wonderfully. Sometimes the all-metal handles conduct heat more than I'd like, but overall, I think these were definitely worth the price.

"A decent bargain" 2008-09-06
By D. Yuan
It's true that you get what you pay for, but sometimes you get a little extra. The Heuck set is very functional and with good care it looks to be quite durable. After using it for a month there are some minor discolorations that are purely cosmetic. The primary problem is the metal construction of the pots and lid handles. The pot and pan handles will heat up some, occasionally to the point of being too hot to touch. The lids almost always heat up that point, and I have to keep a towel handy to move lids around during cooking. For the amount of money I paid, the Heuck set is a bargain and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a set of cheap, durable and moderately good-looking cookware. I would invest in something with better design if you have the money to spare and are looking to properly outfit a kitchen.

"great set for the price" 2010-05-28
By K. Cunningham (Freehold, NJ USA)
After searching for stainless cookware, I decided to go with the Oster. I use it for light cooking and making sauces which it holds up admirably. I have not experienced any staining or discoloration to date and I like the fact that I can look through the see-through lids. The only downside is not being able to put them in the dishwasher, which I like to do as I feel that any residual grease on any pan is taken away in the wash. Another plus is the red silicone handles on the pans and covers give a bit of color to the kitchen without overwhelming you.

"love these!" 2010-05-16

This is our first set of stainless cookware and so far has been easy to clean. We changed from the nonstick for health reasons and are happy with the purchase.

"High Quality Cookware" 2009-02-11
By Erika Mitchell (E. Calais, VT USA)
This is a foundation set of high quality cookware, suitable for any serious home cook. With stainless steel exteriors over aluminum cores, the pots distribute heat evenly, yet the cooking surfaces are non-reactive. While they do not have non-stick coatings, when used as directed (preheating oil in the pans before adding food to be fried), food usually doesn't stick to the pans, and you certainly don't have to worry about Teflon flaking off into your food. The stainless steel surfaces are also easy to clean. If you are used to cheaper cookware, there are a few differences with these pots that you will need to get used to. First, since the pots are heavier than single-layer pots, the balance point for pouring a pot with one hand is right up against the pot itself, rather than out along the handle. And since the handles are solid steel, that means you will definitely need to use a pot holder for pouring, although you can usually touch the handles bare handed if you're simply moving the pots around on the stove. Also, the handles for the lids are steel, so you need to use a pot holder just to lift a lid (and remind visitors to do the same, so that they don't burn their hands). While the cookware is made in the Canonsburg, PA, the lids are marked "Made in China."

All-Clad Copper Core 7-Piece Cookware Set

Product By All-Clad(15 customers reviews)
Lowest Price : $789.99

Product Description

Up until now All-Clad's excellent heat conductivity has been a result of an aluminum core. Another metal equally efficient when it comes to conducting heat is copper. All-Clad now has a complete line of copper core stainless steel cookware which uses bonded 5-ply construction to achieve culinary perfection. The copper core is exposed in an attractive band around each piece, adding warmth, color, and authenticity. Unlike pans with an abundance of exposed copper, these pieces clean easily and are lined with durable food-safe stainless steel. With pieces for frying, browning, simmering, and boiling, your kitchen will be well-equipped with the basics. If you are considering the purchase of new cookware it is a wise shopper who buys "in bulk" as set pricing is nearly always lower than open stock purchasing.

Amazon.com Review

The ultimate in beautiful, high-performance cookware, All-Clad's innovative Copper Core collection combines the unexcelled heat conductivity of copper with the easy maintenance of stainless steel. Crafted in a unique five-ply construction, the cookware contains a core of pure copper that spreads heat quickly and evenly across the bottoms of pots and pans and all the way up the sides. Aluminum layers bond the copper to stainless-steel exteriors and interiors. Enhancing the cookware's appearance, a stripe of the copper core elegantly encircles the gleaming, mirror-finish exterior. The interior is highly polished so it's stick- as well as corrosion-resistant. Rolled edges on pots and pans help prevent drips during pouring and ensure tight-fitting lids.
This seven-piece set of Copper Core cookware consists of a 10-inch fry pan, a 2-quart saucepan with lid, a 3-quart sauté pan with lid, and an 8-quart stockpot with lid. Polished 18/10 stainless-steel pan and lid handles are riveted for strength and grooved on the top for comfort. The lids' handles, the pans' long handles (holed for hanging on a hook or peg), and the stockpot's loop handles stay cool on the stovetop but won't be harmed by an oven's heat. Hand washing this cookware will preserve the jewel-like beauty during its lifetime warranty against defects--and beyond. --Fred Brack

"Love this All Clad set!" 2010-04-29
By Kay Shepherd (California)
I wanted a set of nice cookware and decided to start with this set. It was a present to me for accomplishing a major goal. I choose the copper core line from All Clad because of the lip (which isn't on their other lines, except for the new d5 at Williams Sonoma), and because of the copper - which may or may not contribute significantly to the cookware's wonderful properties - I don't know. I'm not expert enough to judge that. I haven't cooked on a lot of other cookware, so I can't give you a side-by-side comparison. All I can tell you is that I've had it for over a year now and I love the copper core from All Clad. Some people have an aversion to sets, which I understand. Sets often contain items you might not otherwise buy and may not use much at all. But I picked out this set because it had items that I did want and do use. So for me, this set was a good deal. (My set contains a 2qt saucepan, a 3qt saute pan, an 8qt stockpot - all with lids, plus a 10in skillet.) I have since purchased other cookware from this line a la carte. I also purchased it on ebay for significantly less than I've seen it here or in stores.Cleaning is pretty easy if you are cooking correctly with it. Once I did cook on a little too high a temperature in the skillet and caused a pretty fair mess for myself. But Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish (available at some grocery stores, and places like Target) and some elbow grease got it clean. I watch my temperature control better now and have had a very easy time with clean-up ever since. I don't bother polishing the copper band - that doesn't bother me.Now that the new d5 line is out, I'd say I might rethink this choice if I were buying it all again today, as I think the d5 is less expensive, plus it has the lip. But, I have most of what I need already, and love it, so I will very happily keep it.

"Just Buy It." 2009-08-03

If you're browsing ratings for the All Clad Copper Core Set, you recognize good quality in cookware. Just buy it! The 7-pc set can be regularly found on eBay for ~$500.00.

"Very disappointed--don't buy it!" 2008-10-22
By J Crnich (Chicago, IL)
I bought the all-copper huge 16 inch pan with wedding money and was so excited to use it after all the reviews but it's terrible. I just gave it one more try and I realized what a waste of money it was. I followed all of the directions, used medium to low heat, and didn't use salt. The inside is totally discolored after cooking and scrubbing the hell out of it. When you cook you will use lots more oil because it all kind of pools to the outside 2 inches of the pan and the food absorbs all of it! This sucks and I'm going to try and return it to Bloomingdales tomorrow. Don't buy it!

"Amazing cookware, Never Knew It Could Be This GOOD!" 2007-05-19
By Todd March (Foggy San Fran Bay Area!)
Over the years I have used a variety of cookware--aluminum bottomed stainless Revere Ware, Magnalite Professional, Calphalon, Calphalon Professional NonStick. When I finally had to throw out the last of my tattered collection, I started to look for some stainless cookware that would stand the test of time and offer performance to boot. I decided to splurge on this All-Clad Copper Core. One of the pieces I recieved was this 1 1/2 Quart saucepan. What a workhorse this one is! Rice to soup to lentils to barely to country gravy, it gets used! The most used of all my Copper Core is this little pot! Delighted to report that I am THRILLED with this expensive splurge! All-Clad is NOT about expensive hype and status, those these pans are beautifully made, instead they do everything cookware should, and have literally changed the way I cook. Having attended CIA and worked as a professional chef for a few years, I know the golden rule for food not sticking: preheat pan, add oil, let oil heat for 5-10 seconds, then add food. Using these guidelines with the Copper Core, nothing sticks! And I mean for some things, like omelets or fried eggs in the 10" frypan, the performance is as good as my brand new Calphalon NonStick was; when you can just slide omelets and fried eggs out of the pan without ANY sticking at all, why would you ever need Nonstick or Teflon based products?!

However, these pans are also superbly capable of developing a fond on the pan bottom for deglazing and subsequent sauces; in fact I have had them give every last bit of the fond up when deglazed, almost cleaning the pan for me! That's the best thing about them--they do everything right. I am not sure if it's All-Clad propriety stainless "recipe" or what, but these pans are so amazing to be able to function on all levels from eggs sliding out with ZILCH sticking to chicken [...] sticking just enough to develop rich fond for complete deglazing, to the light and glazy fond from sauteed onions and garlic for developing a richer risotto when deglazed with wine.Mind you, this is partly about knowing some basic cooking principles, and these pans might not act so obligingly in non experienced hands, because when I read about people commenting on how everything sticks in their All-Clad stainless interior, I know it isn't All-Clad's fault, believe me!

I have found the copper core very responsive and quick to adjust to temperature. Perhaps not as great as true copper pot and pans, but noticeably better than aluminum cores (Stainless line) or anodized aluminum (Magnalite Pro/Calphalon). These pans heat up and boil water faster than anything I have ever used, aside from true copper cookware, and when turning the heat down, or removing from burner, they also cool incredibly quickly. It's nice to have semi-copper performance with the ease of stainless steel clean-up. And this cookware does clean-up quickly and easily, particularly when using Barkeepers Friend. I use plastic and wooden utensils (no metal) and they still look almost brand new after several months. The copper band however does tarnish and discolor just as much and just as fast as a true copper pot or pan, so if you are fanatic, you will need to polish the tarnish away fairly often (at least every other week). However this is barely noticeable for us real world users, and Barkeepers friend does a good job of semi-polishing the copper (but it won't gleam).I know, I know, they are SO expensive. But honestly, if you know how to cook or want to learn with responsive cookware, I honestly feel this is a great investment. I am wholeheartedly thrilled that I made it and cannot recommend highly enough.

Amazon.com Review

Clad inside and out in gleaming stainless steel, the two-quart covered saucepan and 10-inch covered frying pan in this starter set handsomely suffice to cook just about all the basics: soups, vegetables, fish, meats, eggs, you-name-it. The long handles, riveted for strength and curved for comfort and control, stay cool thanks to their hollow form and V-connection. Cooks who like to hang pots and pans within easy reach will appreciate the generously sized hole in the handle ends. Whisks, spoons, and cleaning brushes all glide smoothly along the curved inner contour of the pans, and the lids fit snugly on the flared, easy-pour rims.
J.A. Henckels International, the economical division of Zwilling J.A. Henckels, makes the durable Classic Clad series for serious home cooks. An aluminum core sandwiched between the stainless steel layers distributes heat evenly not just across the bottom of the pot but up the sides, and requires only low to medium temperatures. As well as being oven- and broiler-safe up to 500 degrees F, each pot or pan features a brightly polished magnetic stainless-steel exterior safe for all types of stovetop burners: gas, electric, ceramic, induction, and halogen. The 18/10 stainless-steel interior resists sticking, won't react to acidic foods, and welcomes metal utensils. Henckels recommends washing Classic Clad pieces by hand to retain the mirror finish, and covers the cookware with a lifetime warranty against defects. Except for the frying pans, each pot shows liter and quart markings, and every piece comes wrapped in a soft, drawstring gift/storage bag. --Ann Bieri

"Perfect Set - Great Quality" 2008-11-26
By D. Leschke (Tulsa, OK)
I first tried this line by purchasing the one quart covered pan and fell in love with the product.I've since purchased the 3.5qt, the 6qt, the 8qt and most recently this starter set. These pans don't warp, don't develop hot spots to scorch food, have inside measures, have sturdy lids that fit well, are coded to help match the lids and clean up as easily as non-stick pots.I've donated my lighter weight SS pots and know that these pans will outlast my time cooking.Highly recommend these to anyone who enjoys cooking and wants the best for their buck.

"Great value but not without some downsides." 2007-09-25
By Victor Lin
This is an awesome value for the price. Heats evenly and quickly, looks wonderful, cleans up easily, and all the other great things you'd expect from good quality clad cookware.

The only problems that I have with it are:

If you simmer something with the lid on, or boil something for a somewhat long time with the lid on, the handle on the lid will get really hot. If you simmer something for a long time the pan handles also have a chance of getting hot considering you've given the heat so much time to spread itself throughout all parts of the pan.The handles are very comfortable... but very hard to keep from twisting in your hand if you're tilting either pan to pour stuff. Because the handles are so smooth and roundish and the pans so heavy compared to el-cheapo pans, it's very hard to keep the pans from twisting back to a level position when you tilt it for pouring, especially if your hands are a bit wet, although this is still very possible with dry hands, or even with a towel acting as a pot holder. This is more pronounced in the fry pan, but also happens in the saucepan. It is a pain to try and keep it tilted with one hand while you scrape food out with the other.Other brands like Calphalon Tri-ply and All Clad have flat, thin, grooved handles. While these handles are not nearly as comfortable when the pan is flat, they provide the needed grip to keep the pan from twisting in the hand when tilted.

"Good quality, good starting set" 2006-07-22
By K. Bianchi (Mountain View, HI United States)
I bought this as a starter set a month ago and built up my collection with other pots from the line. I was searching for something along the line of All-clad, so that the 3 metal layers created the entire pot, not just a circle on the bottom. The All-Clad were a bit out of my price range and too heavy for me to lift when I tested in the store, and that was empty. This set isn't quite as heavy but retains the good quality I was looking for. I really like the handles as well, very comfortable and stay cool as long as heat from a neighboring burner doesn't reach it. They cook evenly, with low heat as suggested and anything that sticks on, comes off easily after soaking in hot sudsy water. I would definitely recommend this line off pots if you are looking to invest in a lasting set, but not break the bank as much as All-clad.

"Junky skillet" 2005-09-03
By M. Miller (Portland, OR)
I love every pan in this set except for the 10 inch skillet. After using it a couple of times, the non stick coating started coming up! I have had several cheap skillets from places like target and walmart, and none of them have ever done this. I put in for a replacement, and hopefully this one was just a defective one!

Update: I got the replacement, and it is fine.

"damaged boxes" 2005-08-26
By D. Wilson (Bellingham, WA)
When I received the box at home from the U.P.S. driver, the box was badly damaged. I assumed it was just the outside box that was damaged. There were two more boxes to go through to get to the pans. Both the next outside box and the Revere box were badly damaged as well. This was a gift for an Anniversary present and how embarassing to have the box so ripped up and torn. I checked out all the pans and lids inside the box and nothing was damaged, only one scratch on one of the lid handles that could be buffed out. The rest of the merchandise inside the box was fine, but the box is in extremely sad shape. It looks like the fork lift ran right into the boxes. I am just glad they didn't send me one that the pans were bent and damaged.

This double boiler set is very well made, atractive, and would look right at home in any kitchen. It's heavy duty construction should make it last a lifetime with proper care. I'm really happy with the styling as well. You wont be dissapointed with this set.

my wife accidentally put the bottom pan in the top. they are not clearly marked. There is no way on earth that could separate these pots now. they are completely stuck together.

I have a set of Innova Classicor and I love them. I have had them for about 10 years and I haven't had any problems with them. My set didn't come with the double boiler so I decided to get this one. It also could be used as a spare 2 qt. sauce pan.

"I love this set!" 2010-01-24
By L. Hayden
I purchased this set on sale at BJs two months ago. I wanted to switch from aluminum to stainless steel cookware, but was hesitant because of the reviews I read. I'm so glad that I purchased this product. The food cooks faster and I haven't had any problems with cleaning. I never leave food in the pots overnight, always soak the pots with water and then rub 'Bar Keepers Secret' on the hard-to-remove spots (available at Target).

Note: I read that if you are allergic to nickel, you should avoid using stainless altogether.

"Cheap price, NOT dishwasher safe." 2010-09-23
By Jacobb E. Semple (Germany)
We bought these pans because the hand-me-downs my dad gave me (which he used for well over 12 years) T-Fal Ultrabase~ which are non-stick, were starting to look a little rugged. I was happy with the buy of these pans (which I bought at christmas 9 months ago) but now they aren't as good as I thought. Out of the 10 pans, 8 of them have loose handles and the bottoms have scratched from clinking them around on the counter and in the cubbords. If we buy another set, we're getting some heavy duty pans, not non-stick as these were so disapointing. Yes, I put them in the dishwasher. Of course now that I know that putting "dishwasher safe" pots in a dishwasher will actually make the handle seals loose, I hand wash them now when I have the time. I am SUPER disapointed that the T-Fal Ultrabase pans that were 12+ years old have handle seals which don't even wiggle, dispite me putting them in the dishwasher for a longer period of time then these junky Mirro ones. I was hoping that the Mirro pans would last at least 5 years. Looks like they'll be in the trash within the next. Actually, I have thrown one of the small pots away because the coating on the inside had a big chunk peel off, which leaches chemicals into your food. I will not be buying Mirro pans ever again. The brand is CRAP.

"Will not last" 2010-05-01
By S. Terry (OH CRAP.)
I received this set as a gift four years ago, and am still using it until I decide which stainless steel set to invest in. I have no metal utensils and have handwashed all my dishes for the past eight years; however, the non-stick coating began to come off the smaller pots about two years ago -- one has no Teflon whatsoever at this point -- and they are now all in various stages of 'Teflon-shed.' The cookware isn't terrible, but I expected to use them for longer than four years. The likelihood that the peeling Teflon will be considered evidence of 'abuse' on my part and not a 'manufacturer's defect,' plus the cost of shipping it all back to Wearever, prevents me from returning this set under warranty. Purchase this set if you don't mind upgrading within a year or two to something more durable.

"Great Set! No Kidding." 2010-04-15
By M. Kadinger (Des Moines)
This is a good buy for under $50.00. The pieces have good weight and are well made. The handles are awesome, giving a firm non-slip well balanced grip. The covers have a vent hole and are sturdy. That they don't fit the frying pans seems like a baseless complaint to me. I don't use covers when frying anyway. The set looks great and cleans up easily. Heat distribution is good aswell. The heavier weight of these seems to distibute the heat better than most. As far as the non-stick surface complaints from some other reviewers, all I can say to them is buy some cast iron sets and age them properly. Maintaining a non-stick surface of any kind is a bit more work but will pay off in the long run for the ease of cleanup. I have bought the cheapest of non-stick sets and used them for years. It just takes a little common sense. And it helps if you are the only one cooking on them.. I would reccommend this set to anyone who doesn't want to spend too much.

"Are you kidding me?" 2009-12-02
By Kate Stokes (Atlanta, GA)
After the very first use--the very first--the teflon coating is already peeling off exposing the steel below it. I made pasta in the pot and used a SOFT plastic spatula to gently stir it. After that there were already two spots where the coating had come completely off. Now I have used it about 5 times total and the coating looks like it has been scraped with a metal spatula hundreds of times. And no, I did not put it in the dishwasher. Not even once. I used a very soft plastic spatula and did not stir hard. I've had far better quality from an $7.99 pot purchased at a discount store. I seriously don't understand how the quality could be so poor and this company is still in business. Avoid this unless you want to eat teflon flakes with your pasta.

"Love this set!" 2009-08-17

By W. Hamilton (Chicago, IL)
I got this, used it for 2 weeks and the copper bottoms on the frying pans popped off. Not good.I'm okay with the pots and lids, but frying is what I love to do. I love eggs, sunny-side up. And now I have no frying pans. :(

"stainless steel" 2009-02-16
By Shannon Crowley (st. louis)
my first stainless steel cookware. this set is nice. not the nicest set available, but a good price. the ad says it is oven safe, but actually only to 350 degrees, but who needs to cook any higher? you would still want to have a couple of teflon pans in your collection for items that don't do well on stainless steel. i do like the set, but my only critique is that a wish one of the pans were larger, and also the pasta strainer doesn't fit like i expected it to and so i have yet to use it.overall a good set for the price

"Not what I expected" 2008-06-23
By M. Kawamoto (Seattle, WA)
My friend has a set of Innova Cookware from a few years ago and I used them while cooking at her house. Her set was great. It cooked the food well and cleaned up very nicely. So I decided to buy a set of my own. This set is great with all the pieces and sizes for my cooking needs. However, on the first use of the 10" pan it burned what I was cooking and its been a little tough trying to get that off of the bottom. That must be because I'm use to cooking with non-stick which has a higher heat requirement. So I gave it another shot. It burns food very quickly if you don't watch it and the cover's handles are made of metal so it gets hot. I would not really recommend this set to anyone and if you're planning on buying it I would go with the 11 piece with non-stick coating. And make sure the covers do not have metal handles. Hope this helps.

"First new full set of cookware! Awesome choice!" 2009-06-28
By A. Redetzke (Everett, WA USA)
I have been doing some research over the past year to find a decent cookware set that was not too expensive. It is so easy to spend hundreds on one pot, let alone a whole set. I came across Paula Deen's set and decided to give it a try. My husband I went with the stainless over the porcelain mostly because of our kitchen decor. The process of removing the tarnish resistant coating was a little bit of a chore, but well worth it. I am very happy with the quality of this cookware and have not had a problem with food sticking to the non-stick pans and no issues with sticking to the non non-stick pots. I definately recommend this cookware set to anyone looking for something affordable, nice and of good quality. I love the copper bottoms and the hand grips are so nice! This is a wonderful gift idea!

"Copper bottom" 2009-05-25
By shebakescakes (United States)
I got these for Mother's Day this year and I love using them. The spatula and spoon are not anything impressive, but I love the pots and pans. As a previous poster said they have to be soaked in a baking soda solution before the first use, but this is no big deal. I love the way the copper turns after they have been used. To me this is attractive. To some it would not be just as solid copper pans would not be without being polished. This is a great set.

"Good for the money" 2009-02-14
By Heather V. Mossman (Munster, IN)
I was going to get the KitchenAid stainless set, since it was highly rated by Consumer Reports. I was going to, that is, until I saw this set in Target next to it.The copper is gorgeous and something you usually only see on much more expensive sets. Something important you must do when you get them out of the box is soak them in a baking soda solution for 20 min to get the copper ready for heat. The pots are stainless inside and out, while the pans are nonstick. I personally like this, but also wish it came with, or gave the option to buy, a stainless pan.I bought this set along with the 12 inch pan. The wooden utensil sets are also very attractive and I got them too.I'm upgrading from my first $40 Wal-Mart set of pots and pans, and I couldn't be happier. I need to find a place to hang them in my kitchen, they're too pretty for the cabinet!

"Value priced for All-Clad quality" 2009-12-04
By Sara in MO (Missouri, USA)
Like Eileen from Boston, I was surprised to see this set at this price. Just the pot costs nearly as much on its own, but this set has a ladle, 2 half-quart ramekins, and a great cookbook (printed in Canada). And the pot is not thin. The day this set arrived, I immediately made a recipe from the included book, chicken/orzo/tomato/zucchini stew, using canned broth and tomatoes, and it was great. The pot is 6qt, right-weight, made in the USA, and while the lid's made in China (every lid/non-bonded item is, per their website, so the ladle & ramekins are from China), it fits perfectly on the pot. I've had that same good lid-fit experience with their braiser pan. I highly recommend reading the Care & Use page on All-Clad's web site, as it covers preheating, using low to medium heat, etc. Also see All-Clad's site for a FAQs page which answers 23 questions. For even more details, see their Cookware Materials page. These pages are all under the Customer Service navigation menu at the upper right of All-Clad's homepage. Lately I've been trying to Buy USA more often and I feel this set is worth it.

"What a great value...I'm very pleased with this purchase!" 2009-03-05
By eileenpr (Boston, MA USA)
I hesitated to buy this set because I couldn't believe the price -- $169.95 for the All-Clad stainless 6-qt stockpot, plus two All-Clad ramekins, a ladle and cookbook. I thought perhaps it was a thinner version (as is the case with the 12" covered non-stick fry pan I purchased from Williams-Sonoma recently for $99 -- but love nonetheless because it heats and cooks just as well as my thicker 10" fry pan but is lighter). But this is the real deal! I am so pleased with this purchase. I haven't used the stockpot yet but it is identical to the one in my local Williams-Sonoma store. I love the ramekins. When I get home from work, I have used them to heat up left-overs on my gas stove -- healthier than using the microwave -- and then I eat right from them. They heat the food beautifully and clean up easily, leaving fewer dishes to wash. They are heavy and thick and aesthetically pleasing to look at and hold. The box said that the stockpot was made in the USA (PA) but the stockpot lid, ramekins and ladle are made in China. I've read some reviews complaining about All-Clad items made in China, but I compared the stockpot lid to the lids I already have and noticed no difference in the quality. Same for the ladle (I already had two All-Clad ladles and now I have three sizes -- all of the same excellent quality). This ladle appears to be 4 oz, smaller than the 6-oz ladle that came with the 4-qt soup pot I have (which sells for $134.95). This Simply Soup set is quite a vlaue for the money. I've wanted the 6-qt stockpot but couldn't bring myself to spend the $230 (current price at Williams-Sonoma and elsewhere). For $60 less, I get the stockpot and lid, the ladle, the ramekins, and cookbook. I decided to write this review so others wouldn't wonder about the quality and hesitate to purchase it as I initially did. I purchased the set from Metrokitchen via amazon and it was delivered quickly and shipping was free.

"Not as hoped" 2010-02-07
By PugPeople (Pittsburgh, PA USA)
This is a perfectly sized steamer for a pound of shrimp or veggies. The quality is good as well. I really thought I had a winner with this steamer. However, the steamer basket did not fit well into the lower pot--seemed too big and sat up on an angle on one side. You'd think quality control at the manufacturer would catch something like that. I promptly returned it for a refund.

Looks nice in the picture so I ordered it.When it arrived it looked great but the metal it is made out of is so thin I could not believe it.The steamer is very shinny ,tried it and it works well.It will be dented up in no time wish it were a little more thicker metal. Not worth the $29.95 I paid for it,more like $12.99.Look around spend your money on a better pot, this was made in India.

"Awesome every day cookware set" 2010-08-08
By k8inut
I received this cookware set as a wedding present nearly two years ago. I absolutely love it! I cook almost every single night, and I have never had any issues with the quality of the cookware (and I tend to be pretty tough on my kitchen wares). I especially love the little extra touches. The pots have measurements on the inside. I really appreciate that when I'm trying to fill up a pot with 2 quarts of water to boil pasta. I also really like that the lids are glass, so I never have to lift the lid to check on what I'm cooking. The lids also have built-in strainers, and the pots have lips for pouring. For the price, I don't know if you could have another set that is this useful and well-made.

"Good cookware, so far..." 2010-04-27
By ScottyMacEsq (Houston, TX)
My wife and I bought this set at Sam's a few months ago, after having our teflon aluminum pans since our wedding. We were really excited, but then found out that cooking with stainless is a lot different than with the aluminum. One, you can see the burned food on the pans. Two, food sticks. Three, clean up is a bit more difficult. But we wanted to be able to put our pans in the oven, as well as have ones that looked good. We were pleased with this set, although we wish that we had gone with the Cuisinart Multiclad line Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless-Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set. Sure, it's more than twice as expensive, but its essentially the poor-man's All-Clad (where this set is not even in the same league).Basically this is a good entry level stainless set, but if you can afford it (without taking out a loan or other financing, of course) go higher. You don't have to go all the way to All-Clad. Look into the Multiclad line. Or Calphalon's stainless sets. This one, although nice and seemingly of pretty good workmanship, still feels light and cheap (inexpensive, not poor quality). Also, if it's your first time with stainless, learn how to use it before the first time you cook with it. It will save you a headache or two. Remember that (as with all stainless, from the $10 low-end skillet to the $200 all-clad pots) you're going to have to clean it to get the stainless look back. I recommend "Bar Keepers Friend." I have been amazed at what this can do, and have used it pretty much everywhere in my kitchen. Conclusion: an inexpensive, well made product, but if you can go better, do so. A fully clad stainless set (such as All-Clad or Cuisinart's Multiclad) will heat better, more evenly, and will likely last longer and take more of a beating.

"Poor Workmanship" 2010-03-13
By Erich Weinfurter (Baton Rouge, LA USA)
The encapsulated aluminum-disk base is separating from my café' collection 1 qt.sauce pan. It was not high heat that caused it, just poor workmanship. Only a 1/4" spot weld holds the heating base to the bottom of the stainless steel pot. Bad design and this results in one heck of a hot spot, as seen by spot discoloration of the stainless steel pan........ I am a fire fighter and have seen my share of house fire resulting from aluminum pots and pans on the stove, so I stay away from aluminum cookware, The aluminum can, and has melted at stove top temperatures. The encapsulation helps but all the rest of my cookware is copper bottom. Made in China 032008.

"Excellent and long-lasting cookware" 2009-12-29
By Paul V. Keller (South Euclid, Ohio United States)
I have had a set like this for more years than I can remember. My brother, who is something of a gourmet, recommended them to me and still has and uses his. Whenever I see a gift registry with pots or pans, I am tempted to send some of these instead. The cookware is well designed. The bottoms are thick for holding and distributing heat. The glass lids are nice for checking progress. I use the steamer almost every day.As other reviewers have complained, the surfaces do not have a non-stick coating. I have never seen a pan with a non-stick coating that held up over a long period of time, so I would say this is a matter of personal preference. In my opinion, the metal surfaces are reasonably easy to clean. If you burn oil on one of the surface, steel wool and a little elbow grease may be required. At least you can use steel wool on these. As far as the rivets go, this is a very minor problems. The only manifestation I have noticed is a drop of oil weeping into the pan from the rivets while preheating an apparantly clean and empty frying pan. The oil obviously came from cooking with the contents rising over the level of the rivets, which I do all the time. I have never noticed leaking out of a pan.Another reviewer had a lid shatter. That must have been a fluke. I have broken many dish and glasses over the years of using these pans. I am somewhat careless in handling my things, but have never broken a lid. I have boiled all the liquid out of a pot, tossed lids into a pile, stacked pans on lids and so forth without ever seing a crack.

"Rivets a real concern" 2009-11-02
By M. Eggleston (Marshalltown, IA USA)
We bought our pans from the HSN channel. We had been looking for replacements for our old Revere Ware and decided to take the plunge with Wolfgang Puck's Bistro set. My concern for these pans come from the rivets. I have yet to experience a leak as was mentioned in another review, but I do have concerns about the metal being used in the rivets. Before we had heard that you weren't supposed to fill the pans above the rivets (which is totally absurd!!!) we had left a full pot of spaghetti sauce in a pan over night in the frig. While washing the pan up the next day we notice that the rivets had corroded, probably from the acid in the tomato sauce. The polished finish of these rivets left one feeling they were made of the same stainless steel as the pan, but on closer inspection it looks like they are made of some kind of aluminum. Why the company wouldn't go the extra mile and put in similar metal rivets only cheapens what could be a real good product. The company that makes the pans replaced it with no questions asked, but did say you shouldn't fill the pans above the rivet line. That changes my 5 quart pot to a 2-2.5 quart pot significantly diminishing the value of the product. Furthermore, my 5 quart pan barely hold 4 quarts of liquid, which I measured to see what it actually held. Maybe I'm out to lunch, but a 5 quart pan should hold 5 quarts. Just my simple mind working here. The pans do stick when frying unless some sort of oil, butter, etc are put in before hand in my experience, or unless using with other liquids. That part doesn't bother me, but what might be (or is) leaching into my food from the rivets if the pan is filled too high is another concern. I will be looking for pans that either have stainless steel rivets or welded connections for their handles, and phasing out my Wolfgang Puck expensive experiment. Oh, how I long for my old Revere Ware back.
